Pontefract Lionesses have joined forces with the town’s Lions club to sponsor a new bench at Friarwood Valley Gardens.
Colin White, chairman of the Friends of Friarwood Valley Gardens group, appealed for help after old benches at the park were vandalised or broken. Jeannette Morgan, from Pontefract Lioness Club, said: “The benches cost more than £700 each because they’re made of special material which is designed to be anti-graffiti and anti-vandalism.
“We just hope the public are able to get the enjoyment of them for many years to come.
“The friends group are working really hard to improve the facilities and make it a better place for people to come to with their families to relax and enjoy time together.”
The Lionesses are also making preparations ahead of their annual lantern festival, which will take place in Valley Gardens, on Saturday, October 18.
