A devoted grandaughter is holding a charity fundraiser in remembrance of her ‘nanna’ who died recently.
Claire Dooler, of Pontefract, has made it her goal to raise money and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support after they helped her family come to terms with her grandmother’s prognosis.
Her 70-year-old grandmother Gloria Dooler, of Normanton, died of pancreatic cancer in March following a six-month battle with the disease.
To achieve her goal, 25-year-old Claire is hosting ‘Macmillan mad night in’ a fundraising event in her grandmother’s memory with all of the proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Miss Dooler, of Holly Close, said: “As many people know, cancer affects everyone of every age.
“Macmillan supports everyone from the patient to every member of their family.”
On the night there will be entertainment from burlesque dancers, martial artists and ballroom dancers. There will also be an auction, tombola and a raffle.
Miss Dooler added: “Having recently lost my nanna to pancreatic cancer, I’ve made it my goal to raise as much money and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support as possible.”
The event will be held on Saturday, May 24 at Pontefract Sports and Social Club on Chequers Close. It will start at 6.30pm and people of all ages are welcome.
Wristbands for the evening cost £2, which includes food and entertainment, and are available on the door or by contacting Miss Dooler on 07763371838. For more information go to the Facebook event page ‘Macmillan mad night in’.
