Brave fundraisers spent the night in a dungeon at Pontefract Castle to raise cash for charity.
A group of 15 were joined by two mediums on the overnight stay last Wednesday as they raised money for the CORRA Charity Bike Ride Fund.
They were the first people to ever spend the night in the dungeon, which dates back to the 17th century.
Jodie Stead, one of the fundraisers, said: “We thought we’d do something totally different in a bid to attract more sponsors rather than just asking for sponsorship for a bike ride.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. There is so much history at the castle you don’t realise.
“The mediums said it is haunted by the Black Monk and two children.
“They showed us two tombstones where ghosts are said to play. It was really scary.”
The group will collect their sponsorship and add it to cash raised on other fundraising events before donating it to various charities and good causes.
The charities will be chosen before a presentation night at Girnhill Lane Working Men’s Club on October 24.
