Youngsters in Pontefract have come up with ambitious plans for a new skate park in the town.

The group wants to build the facility in Pontefract Park and is being backed by the Friends of Pontefract Park, which is working to improve the site.

Youngsters attended the group’s meetings and suggested the idea of the skate park to the committee.

Jack Kershaw, group chairman, said: “The skate park plans are something which we fully support.

“It would help to keep children off the streets and give them a place to meet.

“It is an idea which the young people themselves came to us with and we want it to be something that belongs to them.”

Subject to planning permission and funding, the skate park would be near the golf hut in the park.

Mr Kershaw said: “We’re looking at getting some funding for the project and the youngsters are also doing their own fundraising.

“It would be a great facility for youngsters in the town.”
