Police are appealing for witnesses following a series of wheelie bin fires in Altofts.

The first incident happened at around 3pm on Monday, April 15, around the Heys Buildings area of Church Road. The fire completely destroyed the bin and damaged a nearby wooden fence. The second incident was on Tuesday, April 29, also at around 3pm and at the same location. The guttering, downstairs window and fence of a property was badly damaged. The final incident happened on Wednesday, April 30, further along Church Road. This time, a church was damaged.

All three fires are being treated as arson by officers investigating the incidents.

PC Steve Day, from Normanton neighbourhood police team (NPT), said: “Fortunately no one was hurt during these incidents but fires are dangerous. Officers have been speaking to local residents to see if anyone has witnessed any of these crimes and I would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward.”

Any witnesses should call the NPT on 101.
