Officers from Castleford’s policing team will be lacing up their running shoes next weekend when they tackle the Leeds 10K for charity.

Six members of the town’s neighbourhood policing team (NPT) will take part in the race to raise money for Pontefract’s Prince of Wales Hospice.

The group hopes to raise more than £1,000 for the Halfpenny Lane care centre.

Acting Sgt Andy Dickinson said: “A few of us have raised money for the hospice in the past and I decided in January to see if people wanted to do the race.

“Training has been going okay and it’s nice because it brings us all together.

“We work on three separate teams so don’t see each other much but this has brought us all together.”

The group has raised more than £360 for the hospice so far and has been training for a couple of months.

Acting Sgt Dickinson added: “I think it’s good for our fitness too. We are all trying to improve our fitness and this is a great way of doing it while raising money for a great cause.”
