Porter picks up perfect pork pie

Food gurus Cryer and Stott have been in demand at home and abroad.

The cheesemongers and pie makers from Allerton Bywater hosted a TV crew before jetting out for an ambassadorial reception.

This week Richard and Clare Holmes, from the Castleford firm, flew to Paris for a special reception promoting Yorkshire businesses ahead of the Tour De France.

The husband-and-wife team were at the British Embassy on Tuesday and Wednesday. They and other Tyke business leaders were celebrating the county’s renowned heritage and lifestyle products.

They exhibited a wedding cake stack made of cheese during the networking event at the historic embassy building.

The invitation came about after an earlier Cryer and Stott cheese tour of France, when they met with Suzanne Rickets, the ambassador’s wife, She was impressed by their range of cheeses.

Their products have also caught the attention of luminaries closer to home.

Late last month journalist Janet Street-Porter and TV chef Brian Turner visited the firm’s Allerton Bywater base while filming for a forthcoming food series. Both were presented with giant pork pies with their names on them. The Daily Mail columnist later wrote about her visit, saying the ‘monster pie’ had made her day.
