Producer Gill picks up Bafta for Peter Kay's Car Share

Peter Kay’s Car Share was screened on the BBC and was set around a supermarket assistant manager who takes part in a car share scheme with a colleague.

John Redmond, who is played by Peter Kay, drives the pair to work in his Fiat 500 as the two have conversations whilst listening to fictional radio station Forever FM.

The show, which also starred Sian Gibson, was named Best Scripted Comedy at the BAFTAs and also picked up the Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme prize.

It was produced by former Airedale High School and Pontefract NEW College student Gill Isles.

Ms Isles, 42, said: “It was amazing to be a part of it. You don’t expect to win because the BAFTAs is the biggest accolade in television, so to hear our names read out was incredible.”

Ms Isles studied media production at Bournemouth University before working at Radio Leeds and BBC Radio 1.

After making the move into television and moving to Manchester, she began working with Peter Kay in 2012.

She said: “He is brilliant to work with and just like you see him on television. He is very down to earth and really, really funny.

“He’s always making people laugh and has a great comic eye and ear. As a producer that’s perfect to work with.”

Ms Isles hoped other young people from Castleford would be inspired to work in broadcasting.

She added: “If you are really passionate about something you have just got to go for it.

“I didn’t know I would be working in comedy television and it has taken be a long time to get to this place. But it’s just a matter of keeping going and believing in yourself. And enjoying what you do.”
