Exploding custard, square bubbles and screaming jelly babies were just a few of the weird and wonderful things on offer at a community event at Castleford Academy.
More than 100 parents and children from local primary schools attended the science fun day last week. The event, run by the academy’s science department, had a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory theme.
Teachers demonstrated experiments similar to the unconventional inventions featured in the family film which wowed the captivated audience.
They then offered pupils the chance to conduct some imaginative experiments of their own.
Youngsters were able to learn how to perform experiments including making exploding custard, cinder toffee, screaming jelly babies and rainbow fizz.
Catherine Wilson, science teacher, said: “This was a fantastic event that involved lots of children from the local community.”
