A shop has been caught selling booze to underage teenagers in an undercover police operation.
Officers from the Castleford and Normanton and Featherstone neighbourhood police teams (NPT) visited seven licensed shops with two pupils from Airedale Academy in Castleford.
The shops which passed the test purchase operation included Best One and Premier Store, both in Airedale, and Patel’s Lifestyle Express in Normanton.
One shop failed the test when a member of staff served one of the youngsters without checking their identity.
They were given a fixed penalty notice of £80.
It took place on Monday, February 17, after concerns were raised during a police webchat on Facebook.
Sgt Alex Macleod, of the Normanton and Featherstone NPT, said: “This operation was intelligence led and in response to issues raised by the community.
“Earlier this month we carried out a webchat on Facebook and underage drinking was a subject which was raised by people taking part.”
The details of the shop which failed were also passed onto Wakefield Council’s licensing department and
