Youngsters got the chance to meet the Romans at an event held at the new Castleford Forum museum.

The event, hosted by Wakefield Council, featured exhibitions on Castleford’s Roman history, artefacts and were able to try on some costumes for themselves.

Coun David Dagger, cabinet member for culture, sport and libraries, said: “I’m delighted that the Roman day event at Castleford Forum Library and Museum was such a huge success, with many families attending.

“Local children were able to learn about the area’s Roman heritage by having a Roman hairstyle makeover and seeing first hand real Roman metal objects and learning how they were used.

“I hope the event has introduced even more people to what the Castleford Forum has to offer.”
