A long-standing committee member of Pontefract & District Archaeological Society has retired.

Robert (Bob) Evison joined the society, now better known as PontArc, in the early 1970s.

He served long term on the committee as chairman, treasurer and latterly secretary.

A small presentation was held in April in which the society president, Peter Addyman, presented the retiring official with a book on motorcycles.

Eric Houlder, chairman said: “Bob was instrumental in turning what was a small town group into one of the leading archaeological societies in the country with a string of national awards to its name.”

Although retired from the committee, Bob will remain a member of PontArc but he is looking forward to pursuing his other interests.
