Plans for a new £135m development in Glass Houghton - including a new stadium for Castleford Tigers - are expected to be submitted “within a matter of weeks.”

Plans for a new food store, petrol station, high-quality shops, the stadium and a country park on land just off the M62 at junction 32 were first announced by Lateral Property Group in March.

Now, after holding a number of consultation events across the area, the company is working on finalising the scheme before submitting an application to Wakefield Council.

Phillip Lunn, managing director of Lateral Property Group, said: “We’re delighted with the positive reaction that we’ve had to our proposals for Five Towns Park.

“To date, we have received more than 1,400 responses during the consultation.

“As a result of feedback, we are making some amendments to the proposals in order to address issues raised by local residents.

“We are currently working through those changes and expect to be in a position to submit the planning application within a matter of weeks.”

People can still give their views on the plans on a dedicated website.

Residents will also be able to submit comments to council planning bosses once the application has been submitted.

Mr Lunn added: “Consultation will continue throughout this process and people can continue to comment.”

The development - called the Five Towns Park - would be on land between Spittal Hardwick Lane and Stainburn Avenue.

If approved, it would create more than 2,000 jobs for the area.
