A swan and a pair of ladders caused disruption on the M62 motorway this morning.

Police were called to reports of a swan stuck in the middle of one of the lanes on the eastbound carriageway, between junction 30, at Rothwell, and junction 31, at Castleford.

A highways team was sent to the scene shortly before 9am as traffic was forced to slow down.

But they could not find the bird.

There was also traffic congestion on the westbound carriageway, between junction 33, at Ferrybridge, and junction 34, Whitley, near Knottingley, as a pair of ladders were spotted near the hard shoulder.

They were removed by 9.30am.
