Turkey will be on the menu at a homeless charity in Castleford this Christmas thanks to a farm’s donation.
Trinity Mission has received the bird from Hostingley Farm Free Range, at Thornhill near Dewsbury.
The mission, at Trinity Methodist Church, on Powell Street, runs a night shelter on Thursday and Friday.
It also runs drop-in sessions providing hot meals on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and Sunday evening.
Maureen Harris, a team leader at Trinity Mission, said: “This donation is a great help and we are very grateful.
“We’ve had some really good support from the local community and any help we can get is great because the mission is run by volunteers.”
Hostingley Farm donates a number of its turkeys to charities and good causes in the district every year.
This year it has also helped the homeless charity Community Awareness Programme, in Wakefield.
Donations have also been made to Middlestown J&I and Netherton J&I Schools in Wakefield.
Lynne Lindley, from the farm, said: “We just want to spread the festive spirit. Christmas is about giving as well as receiving.”
