She is also hoping to be one of four who will represent team GB at the World Championships at Daytona Beach, Florida in November.

The dedicated youngster, who trains five times a week at Wakefield Gym Club, has been a gymnast since she was seven and started tumbling just over a year ago.

The sport of tumbling does not get funding, so to be able to compete, Ellie needs to raise £1,000 for the Portugal trip and another £2,500 to take part in the world championships.

Proud mum, Diane Pearson said: It is a massive achievement for her to be selected for team GB at the age of 12.

“We couldn’t be prouder of her. It would be devastating for it to be just within her grasp and miss out just because we didn’t have the money.
