A parade of mayors and mayoresses from across the county made its way through the streets of Moorthorpe and South Kirkby for the official Yorkshire Day celebrations.

Led by the Oughtibridge Brass Band, the 20 minute procession of white rose wearing representatives, which also included councillors and Yorkshire Society members, started at Minsthorpe College and ended at All Saint’s Church in South Kirkby.

The procession was followed by an hour long service at the church where Lord St Oswald gave a reading.

And the Mayor of South Kirkby and Moorthorpe, Coun John Taylor, gave The Yorkshire Day Declaration of Integrity before the national anthem was sung.

Coun Taylor said: “South Kirkby and Moorthorpe feel very proud to host Yorkshire Day 2014.

“It is a great honour as it is usually cities and large towns which host the official celebrations.”
