Residents in Ackworth will be showing cold callers the door as part of a new initiative in the village.
A ‘no cold call’ zone has been launched in the Tanhouse Lane and Townend Avenue area by police, housing bosses and councillors.
PC David Walker, of South East neighbourhood policing team (NPT), said: “These zones have proved to be effective in other parts of the district and provide reassurance for residents who may not wish to be approached on their doorstep.
“The scheme is in response to concerns raised by residents and has received great local support following a consultation process.
“It’s also been a very good example of the partnership which takes place between the NPT, Wakefield and District Housing, West Yorkshire Joint Services and Ackworth Parish Council.”
No cold call zone signs and stickers will be placed around Tanhouse Lane and Townend Avenue and in the windows of residents’ homes.
Cold calling incidents can be reported to the Citizens’ Advice consumer helpline on 08454 040506.
Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire’s police and crime commissioner, said: “I am pledging my full support to this project as it will ensure local people will be safer and feel safer in their homes.”
