Women are being urged to sign up for this year’s Race for Life in Pontefract.
Entries are now open for a 5k or 10k event at 10.30am on Sunday, July 23 at Pontefract Racecourse.
The women-only events, which take place across the country, raise funds for Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity.
The Race for Life is run in partnership with Tesco.
Cancer Research UK is hoping that 540,000 women will take part in almost 300 events across the country in 2014.
It is aiming to raise more than £50m to help fund lifesaving work.
The charity’s pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives.
Sarah Threadgall, Cancer Research UK’s Pontefract events manager, said: “We’re calling on Pontefract’s mighty-mums, gutsy-grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to join our formidable army and take on cancer at this year’s Race for Life.
“We know how committed Pontefract women can be when they really make up their minds to do something. We want to harness that power to stop cancer in its tracks, by raising money for life-saving research.
“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.
“Race for Life is an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease. There are more than 200 cancers and we won’t give up until we find cures for them all.”
To sign up for the event, visit www.raceforlife.org or call 0845 600 6050. Registration costs £14.99 for adults and £10 for children aged from six to 15, which covers the cost of staging the events.
