Heartbroken relatives of a Knottingley man who went missing 20 years ago have made an emotional plea for information about his disappearance.

Sean Alexander Thompson was last seen by a taxi driver walking on Pontefract Road from Knottingley to Pontefract on March 18, 1993.

Mr Thompson, who was 25 at the time, was conspicuous because of a medical condition that meant he constantly walked on tiptoes.

His sister, Ruth Thompson-Douglas, broke down in tears and was unable to read a statement at a press conference today (Friday).

His mother, Jean Thompson, 70, told the meeting: “Sean’s now been missing for 20 years and they always say times a healer, but for us it hasn’t been, as we have no idea where Sean is. It’s like he’s literally fallen off the face of the earth.”

At the time of his disappearance he was described as white, about 5ft 10ins tall, with brown eyes, slim and had a pale complexion and short brown hair.

Detectives investigating his disappearance have released a digital image of what Mr Thompson could look like today at the age of 45.

Speaking to the Express after Mrs Thompson said: “I lost his dad six years since but I want to see him before I go. It’s like a lifetime sentence of hanging on.

“Sean please get in touch. Even if it’s just a phone call. You are not in trouble, we just want to know you are okay.”

Mr Thompson, who used to live on Hazel Road, in Knottingley, worked as a garden apprentice, before going on to work in a bookmakers.

Mrs Thompson-Douglas said: “If anyone knows of him or where he is then please get in touch with the police or missing people.

“If he has gone off on his accord for whatever reason, then please just get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or the charity Missing People on 116000.
