20-year plan unveiled to revamp town

Council bosses have unveiled a 20-year plan which they say will lead to Knottingley and Ferrybridge becoming “economically successful and thriving” communities.
Wakefield Council will be displaying its Knottingley and Ferrybridge Delivery Plan at public consultation events next week.
The regeneration proposals include building a new retail development, called The Close, on land at Hill Top, near Knottingley Library.
The plans would see five new units built which could then be used for shops, offices, restaurants and cafes.
Knottingley Coun Harry Ellis said: “I am all for developing Knottingley and getting shops back to being occupied because there is nothing worse than seeing empty shops with the shutters down. We will do anything we can to encourage more businesses to the town.”
Hill Top and The Arcade, in Knottingley, would also be revamped and environmental improvements would be made across the area.
The consultation events will take place at Knottingley Town Hall on Monday 3pm to 7pm and at Ferrybridge Community Centre on Wednesday between 10am and 2pm.
The exhibition will then be available to view at Knottingley Sports Centre from February 11 to 15.
