£250k shop scheme
A QUARTER of a million pounds will be made available to businesses in Castleford hoping to spruce up their shop fronts.
Wakefield Council is kicking off its regeneration plans for the town centre with a proposed shop front improvement grant.
The council has run a successful shop front scheme in the past and as part of this new scheme will review and update existing guidance and application forms to ensure they are clear and easy for people to use.
Regeneration bosses will meet on Tuesday September 4 to discuss the £250,000 capital funding, which they hope will improve the look of the town.
Coun Denise Jeffery, the council’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic growth, said: “This scheme will help secure investment and confidence in the town centre and improve the environment and attractiveness of Castleford.
“We want to work with business owners to try and help them during this tough economic time and this scheme is just the first of many, on our road to regenerating the area.”
The proposed scheme will run over three years and was identified as an early project within the Castleford Growth Delivery Plan (GDP), which is the blueprint for the town’s future.
The plan was been shaped from comments made through consultation and builds upon the Local Development Framework and work that has already taken place in the town centre.
This also includes developing the ‘Aire River Growth Corridor,’ which stretches from the former Lambson’s chemical site in the west to Fryston in the east.
