A1 closed at Castleford after two crashes

THE A1 near Castleford is closed after two serious crashes this morning (Wednesday).

The northbound carriageway is closed between junction 42 near Castleford and junction 45 near Boston Spa after two traffic accidents, one of which was fatal.

One person was confirmed dead at the scene following the first incident at 11am between junctions 45 and 46, involving a lorry and a car.

The second incident was just after 11.30am near to junction 43 and is believed to have involved four vehicles.

Police, ambulance and fire crews are at the scene.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
