A four-year-old girl’s wish has been granted after a vandalised park near her home has been transformed into a safe playground .

Alexi Fairbanks has written a book about Redhill recreation ground, on Redhill Drive, Airedale, near where she lives.

The Glass Houghton Infant School pupil has charted developments at the park in the diary-style book after talking to builders on the site.

Her mum, Rosemary Williamson, said: “We are very proud of Alexi, she even took the book she wrote to school. There aren’t many four-year-old’s around that would do that.

“We very rarely went to the park because there was often broken glass and the swings were tied up so she couldn’t use them.

“But when we were going past the site in the summer we noticed builders workingthere and she introduced herself to them because she loves chatting.”

Alexi said: “The old park was broken and full of glass. It is a great new park. We need to look after it please.”
