Angry mum’s sleepless nights

PONTEFRACT mum Emma Murphy – who has a muscle wasting illness – claims she has been forced to sleep on her settee for weeks while waiting for a new bed to be delivered.

Mrs Murphy, 42, who has fibromyalgia syndrome, says she ordered the £1,800 adjustable bed from Dreams on South Baileygate in Pontefract on June 3 but almost ten weeks later, she’s still waiting for it to arrive.

Mrs Murphy, of Pine Tree Avenue, said: “I was told the bed would arrive on July 6, so I got rid of my old bed the day before.

“The delivery men turned up at my house on the 6th with the wrong bed. I have been forced to sleep on my sofa since then. It’s been awful, there are days when I’ve worken up in so much pain that I can’t do anything.

“I’ve been told twice in the last six weeks that my bed would be delivered in two weeks, but I still haven’t got it.

“I’ve visited the store three times to chase up my order and emailed the company complaints department, but had no response. I have been offered 30 per cent off vouchers for our next purchase, but that won’t change what I’ve been through.”

The mum-of-two, who uses a wheelchair and has to wear morphine patches to cope with her pain, added: “I wanted to buy this adjustable bed to make my life easier, but this has only made it worse. It is causing us all a lot of stress.

“My husband is sleeping on a mattress on the floor but I need an adjustable mattress because of my condition. My daughters have slept on the sofa some nights, but I don’t want to kick them out of their beds when they have to get up at 6am every morning to go to college.

“It makes me sick when I see the adverts for this company on television - their name should be nightmares, not Dreams.”

A spokesman for Dreams said “We are investigating the issues behind the delay in delivering Ms Murphy’s bed, but in the meantime, arrangements are being made for delivery in the next few days. We have offered our sincere apologies to Mrs Murphy for the inconvenience caused.”
