Bouncing bunnies take the Easter Sunday stage
Missy will be competing in the RJUK competition on Easter Sunday at Farmer Copley's.
Bouncing Easter bunnies will be going hopping mad at a showjumping competition next month.
Each lively lapin will take a leap of faith in front of audiences at Farmer Copley’s in Featherstone on Easter Sunday.
The long-eared competitiors will battle it out to be crowned Rabbit Jumping UK’s (RJUK) springiest member as part of the farm’s weekend celebrations.
Kayleigh Hopkinson, RJUK secretary and treasurer, said: “We put rubber matting down and put out a series of jumps at different heights for the rabbits to jump over to see who can jump the highest.
“It’s come from places like Canada, Sweden and Germany where there’s lot of groups and we go all over the country doing it.”
Hurdling hares and rabbits from Yorkshire and beyond will take part in three displays at the Pontefract Road farm, at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
Members of RJUK will also be on hand to raise awareness of how to care for pet rabbits as well as encouraging new members to sign up.
Miss Hopkinson said: “Nobody has really seen rabbit jumping so for us it’s a chance to show people that rabbits are really intelligant.
“We were at an event in Nottingham recently to show people some jumping and people were asking if they could have a go and really surprised the rabbits wouldn’t jump for them.
“A lot of training going into making them do what you want them to do.”
Miss Hopkinson will be encouraging her own pets, Missy, and Honey, to take a hop, skip and a jump over obstacles as high as 60cm at the event on March 31.
