Byram man in eight-hour knife stand-off

POLICE officers were involved in an eight-hour stand off with a Byram man who was threatening to harm himself.

A negotiator and North Yorkshire Police officers were called to the property, on Byram Park Road, at around 9.35pm on Sunday October 28 and found Iain Barnes, 34, threatening to harm himself a knife.

The road was closed while officers attempted to talk to Mr Barnes who was making numerous threats to himself and officers, and smashing windows at the property.

The man agreed to leave the house at about 5.30am on Monday when he was arrested and charged with offences, including affray, breach of bail and two counts of assault by beating.

He appeared at York Magistrates Court yesterday (October 30) and has been remanded in custody until November 27.
