Care improves
STANDARDS of patient care at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust have improved according a report by the Care Quality Commission published yesterday.
Pontefract Hospital was found to be meeting all expected standards in the inspection, which took place in November, with A&E and the day surgery unit inspected, along with the care closer to home ward, which was singled out for praise.
The inspection, which also took place across Pinderfields and Dewsbury Hospitals, saw improvements across the board, with the short stay surgical case unit at Pinderfields – heavily criticised in a previous CQC report – now meeting standards.
It also found improvements to an elderly care unit at Dewsbury, which had also been criticised by an earlier CQC report, along with a better system for ensuring the right level of staff on wards, again stemming from concerns highlighted at Dewsbury, as well as better care at Dewsbury’s maternity unit, previously the subject of a warning notice in early 2012.
Kate Harper, director of quality at the trust, said: “We are very pleased with the results from the report. It is complimentary about the service we provide in many areas and includes a lot of really positive feedback from our patients.
“This reflects the improvements we have made and the hard work of our staff in providing ongoing high quality care.”
