Carers accused of pensioner ‘abuse’
Date:16th July 2012. Emma Bryan, leaving Pontefract Magistrates Court.
TWO carers allegedly caught on camera subjecting an 89-year-old dementia sufferer to “physical and mental abuse” have appeared in court.
Emma Bryan, 29, of Harewood Avenue, Chequerfield, Pontefract, and Katherine Wallis, 45, of Rhyl Street, Featherstone, appeared at Pontefract Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Bryan is charged with five counts of ill-treating or wilfully neglecting the female pensioner at Oakfoss Residential Care Home in Pontefract over a four-day period last November.
Wallis faces a single charge of ill-treating or wilfully neglecting the woman at the Weavers Road care home on November 13 last year.
Andy Wills, prosecuting, said the alleged abuse was caught on “covert” CCTV which was installed in the pensioner’s room by concerned family members.

Mr Wills said: “Family members installed covert CCTV. It showed over a five-day period a breach of trust, physical and mental abuse and witholding of medication.”
No pleas were entered and the case was adjourned to Pontefract Magistrates’ Court on July 30.
