Courageous parents Richard and Sarah Clarke will be hosting a charity ball on the day their brave baby girl would have turned two years old.

Little Emilia died at just eight months old from Zellweger’s Disease – a rare genetic condition which meant she could not process fats.

The Clarkes, of Penrose Beck Drive, Ackworth, are now hosting the Millie Bug Ball to raise cash for Martin House Children’s’ Hospice and the Jigsaw Team – a charity that supported the family in caring for Emilia at home.

Mrs Clarke, 30, said: “Being at home meant Emilia was able to meet other members of the family and get out in the fresh air, which made her last longer.”

Emilia was given just six months to survive but went on to live for eight-and-a-half months, spending time at their Ackworth home and at Martin House Children’s Hospice.

The Clarkes and their friends have raised almost £15,000 for charity and aim to continue their efforts through their group - Team Emilia.

Mrs Clarke said: “Martin House and Jigsaw make such a difference to families in the area – you don’t know until you need them how much they do.”
