Crooked Ways music Festival Pontefract Park - Johnny Borrell of Razorlight

THE organisers of Pontefract’s Crooked Ways music festival have launched a call for local bands to apply for a spot in this year’s event.

The first festival, last May, saw more than 3,000 music fans flock to Pontefract Park to see Razorlight headline, along with bands including Reverend and the Makers, The Sunshine Underground, King Charles, The Whip, Chris Helme and many more.

Crooked Ways is hoping to attract thousands more fans when it holds its second festival at the park on Saturday June 1.

As well as internationally acclaimed artists, the best in up and coming talent, Crooked Ways also gives local bands the chance to perform in front of thousands of people.

Outside of the music, the festival also features performers of all kinds, stalls and attractions and activities.

Scott Ward, Crooked Ways promotor, said: “Across Yorkshire we have loads of immensely talented, yet unsigned artists, which is why we want to give them the chance to play in front of thousands of people.

“At Crooked Ways we have a stage solely devoted to artists from Yorkshire, the Crooked Ways Presents stage. Last year on the stage we had wide-ranging genres of music, from acoustic to punk to electro, and I’m sure 2013 won’t be any different.”

Applications for slots on the Crooked Ways Presents stage are now being taken, with full details and an application form at its website. Visit www.crookedways.co.uk/bands to find out more, the closing date for applications is January 31.

Crooked Ways will announce the first wave of bands, along with tickets going on sale in late January/early February.
