THE first concert at Pontefract NEW college’s £2.2m state-of-the-art performance hall will raise cash for the town’s Dr Jackson Cancer Fund.

The Five Towns’ cancer charity – which holds events across the district to raise money for patients in the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust – has organised an ensemble concert on October 17.

The Park Lane college kitted out the new hall with dance studios, computer suites, a recording studio and a theatre for performances hosted by pupils and community groups.

Jemma Richmond, Dr Jackson’s administrator, said: “We are really excited to host the first event in the new hall.

“We are hoping that it’s going to be a big success and we can fill the 135 seats in the hall.

“The music will be performed by Sepia Duo which plays piano and cello duets.

“It is going to be a spectacular show and a wonderful opportunity to raise cash for cancer fund.

“We are hoping to raise around £1,000 from the night, but one of our main goals was to get more young people involved from this event.

“We will have students helping out on the night and hopefully they will be able to learn more about volunteering with the charity.

“We are very excited to be the first ones to try out the new hall and hope we will be able to put plenty more concerts on in the future.”

The new building work – paid for by government’s funding for colleges and school funds – started in January and was completed in August.

Yorkshire playwright John Godber will officially open the hall on October 5.

Tickets for the concert – which starts at 7.15pm – cost £8 for adults and £5 for students and over 65s.
