Emily Hemingway and Billy Marsh have raised money for her friend Kenan Wilkes (right) who has cerebral palsy and is raising money for a specialist bike to help with his physio.

Kind-hearted youngster Emily Hemingway took the plunge by doing a sponsored swim to raise more than £400 for her friend.

The Express reported last month that 11-year-old Kenan Wilkes, who has cerebral palsy, was hoping his dream of having a £2,000 custom made bike would come true.

Their efforts have now received a major boost after Kenan’s classmate Emily, 11, swam 100 lengths at Kippax Swimming Pool last week to raise the cash.

Emily’s mum Nicola said: “It was completely her idea. She has grown up with Kenan and saw the article in the paper and just said ‘I could do a sponsored swim for him’.

“I am so proud of her. I was crying when she did her last length.”

Kenan is recovering after an operation on his right leg at the end of February and the bike will help with his physiotherapy. To sponsor Emily contact Mrs Hemingway on 07966 092175.

The youngsters are pictured with Billy Marsh, who also took to the pool to help out Kenan.
