Help save lives
Pontefract NPT urge local residents to follow thier lead and give blood. p307b235
POLICE officers in Pontefract rolled up their sleeves to donate life-saving blood as part of a national volunteer campaign.
Pontefract and Knottingley neighbourhood policing team (NPT) took part in the sessions as part of their contribution to Jubilee Hour, which asks people to give up 60 minutes of their time to help a good cause in their area this summer.
Acting Insp Dan Tillet said: “Many people have a fear of giving blood. Today’s effort highlights the ease in which it can be given, in a warm and inviting environment.
“The NPT is proud to support the donating of blood and hope that our donation will inspire others to follow in our footsteps.”
Just four per cent of the eligible population are active blood donors and the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) service collects approximately two million units of blood each year.
Donna Batty, NHSBT’s lead donor relations manager for the Pontefract area, said: “We are very grateful to the NPT for devoting their Jubilee Hour to giving blood and helping us promote the need for more donors here in West Yorkshire.”
