Help to give up smoking for 2013
HELP is at hand for smokers who decide to kick the habitfor 2013.
District pharmacies will provide free Quit Kits for smokers as part of a health campaign by the department of health.
The Health Harms initiative will see smokers issued with kits which include addiction tests, distraction tools and stop-smoking medicines.
The kits will also contain a Health and Wealth Wheel to show how smoking affects health, well-being and bank balance.
Dr Andrew Furber, the district’s director of public health, said: “The Quit Kit has been developed by experts, smokers and ex-smokers and is full of practical tools and advice.
“It’s already helped thousands of smokers successfully quit.
“I would encourage anybody wishing to stop smoking to pop down to their local, participating pharmacy and pick up their free Quit Kit.”
Health bosses have warned that smoking 15 cigarettes causes a mutation that can lead to cancerous tumours.
