YOUNG Castleford holidaymaker Adam Atkinson who fell to his death at a Majorcan hotel had been drinking at a bar which offered an all-you-can-drink deal for ten euros, an inquest heard.
The 20-year-old fell from the third floor after returning to the three-star Hotel Martinique hotel, following a two-hour drinking session at a bar in Magaluf, in the early hours of April 17.
An inquest at Wakefield Coroner’s Court on Wednesday September 12 heard how the former Castleford Academy pupil had climbed over railings onto a small ledge of a staircase before losing his grip and falling on the marble floor below.
Adam’s friend Gareth Yearsley told the court he was climbing the stairs to their rooms on the third floor while Adam had gone up in a lift.
Mr Yearsley said: “I head a bit of a bang and saw something fly past us on the stairwell.
“I didn’t know what it was. I looked over and I saw Adam lying on the floor at the bottom.”
Mr Yearsley added: “He was laid on his back. He just looked like he was lying in bed asleep.”
Adam died from traumatic head injuries in San Espases Hospital, Palma. Deputy coroner Melanie Williamson recorded a verdict of accidental death.
