FORMER Express reporter Ian Bevitt – who became a TV director more than a decade ago – is one of the men behind the camera on a new TV prime time drama series.

Ian, 51, who started his media career as a reporter on the Pontefract and Castleford Express in the 1980s, is one of three directors who helped make the new six-part ITV series Home Front which tells the stories of the wives, girlfriends and mothers of soldiers serving in
Afghanistan.

The married dad-of-two, who has worked for the past 13 years on shows such as Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Heartbeat, directed two Home Front episodes to be shown on October 11 and 18 at 9pm.

He said: “The drama shows a side of army life that the public rarely gets an insight. Home Front shows how the women left behind juggle with jobs and family life while forever dreading the knock on the door.”

Ian was born in Hemsworth and brought up in Pontefract by dad Barry and mum Janet, a former assistant at the town’s Chequerfield Infant School.

After leaving Pontefract King’s School at 18 he worked for Pontefract firm Davison’s Meat Supplies, delivering to shops and working men’s clubs.

Ian now lives in North Yorkshire with wife Sarah and sons Will, 12, and George, nine.
