Labour hold Castleford by-election
Richard Foster
Labour has held a seat in a Wakefield Council by-election in the Castleford Central and Glass Houghton ward.
The election was triggered by the resignation of Coun Mark Burns-Williamson, who held the seat for Labour for 15 years, and who was elected West Yorkshire’s first police and crime commissioner last November.
Richard Forster was the successful candidate, with 1,567 votes, a majority of 1,218 and 76.6 per cent of the votes cast.
Coun Forster joins Couns Denise Jeffery (Labour) and Tony Wallis (Labour), in representing the ward.

Richard Forster (Labour) 1,567 votes (76.6 per cent)
Nathan Garbutt (UKIP) 349 votes (17.1 per cent)
Annemarie Glover (Conservative) 95 votes (4.7 per cent)
Mark Goodair (Liberal Democrat) 33 votes (1.6 per cent)
The overall votes cast was 2,045 and turn out for the by-election was 16.93 per cent.
