A bike ride has been set up in memory of an enthusiastic cyclist who raised more than £100,000 for charity.

Kippax dad-of-three Ian Meek, 42, died on August 1 last year.

He had been diagnosed with a brain tumour in 1994, which became malignant in 2009, and while battling his illness he organised and took part in a series of fundraising events, called Meek’s Feats, for charity Brain Tumour Research and Support Across Yorkshire (BTRS), raising £110,00, walking the Three Peaks and completing a 24-hour bike ride from Bristol to Bradford. He was also an Olympic torch bearer when it visited Yorkshire in June.

Now a mammoth bike ride of more than 200 miles will take place in his memory from Bristol to Leeds on July 13 and 14.

Carol Robertson, of BTRS, said: “Ian was an incredible man who wanted to raise some serious money for research, understanding that it wouldn’t be in time to help him or his family, but may spare families in the future.

“Just before he died in St Gemma’s Hospice, he asked me to organised a 200 plus mile bike ride starting in Bristol, knowing this would be in his memory.”
