The Met Office has warned of heavy snowfall in the Pontefract and Castleford area on Friday.

An amber ‘be prepared’ warning has been issued warning of up to 8 centimetres of snow overnight on Friday into Saturday.

The warning said: “Further snowfall will spread from the west, as another weather front moves eastwards across the UK.

“Strong winds will also lead to drifting and blizzard-like conditions.

“The public should be prepared for likely disruption, particularly to travel.”

Any snowfall on Friday night is likely to melt fairly quickly over the weekend and into the early part of next week when spells of heavy rain are forecast along with milder temperatures of up to 7C.
