BIKERS and walkers in the Five Towns can win prizes by signing up to a new fitness challenge.
Residents who join the J32 Walk and Cycle Challenge – launched by sustainable transport charity Sustrans on Tuesday – can win tickets and vouchers for attractions and restaurants at Castleford’s Xscape by logging the number of miles spent walking and cycling around the Five Towns on the charity’s website.
The charity – which hopes the initiative will encourage walking and cycling in the district – will reward the resident or group that clocks up the most miles before October 31.
Sheridan Woolley, Sustrans’ active travel officer for the Five Towns, said: “Sustrans is encouraging everyone to have an active, healthy October by hitting the pavement or jumping on the bike and clocking up some miles for the challenge.
“It’s a great way to motivate yourself on a October morning, step up to the challenge and have some fun!”
Bsiness leaders at Xscape, Junction 32 shopping outlet and Wakefield and District Housing are backing the initiative, which is funded by money raised by HealthAmaze through the Health Lottery. Visit j32.get meactive.org.uk to register.
