PONTEFRACT and Castleford MP Yvette Cooper got stuck into work as a volunteer at the Cancer Research UK shop in Pontefract on Friday.

Ms Cooper rolled up her sleeves to encourage local people to give their time to the charity. She was joined by Lisa McGlynn, who volunteers at the Pontefract Cancer Research UK shop on Beastfair.

Lisa, who volunteers three times a week at the shop, helped Ms Cooper man the till and talked about her reasons for volunteering.

Lisa, 33, said: “I have had family affected by cancer which helped me decide to volunteer. It’s a really good way to get experience for work in these difficult times and is also a great way to make new friends and to get out talking to people.”

Ms Cooper said: “The staff and volunteers at Cancer Research UK do a fantastic job and I was lucky to have a great team at the Pontefract store to show me round. People like Lisa prove just how vital it is that the local community continues to help raise vital funds to help beat cancer.”
