TWO O2 stores in Castleford and Glass Houghton took part in a nationwide relay race raising cash for youth projects across the UK.

Staff at Carlton Lanes shopping centre’s store ran to the Junction 32 retail outlet branch to pass on the baton on Friday and raised £350 from cheering shoppers.

More than 100 O2 stores in 116 towns will take part in the race – The Tour de O2 – in a bid to raise £100,000 for the Think Big campaign, which supports social projects led by young people.

Rebecca Dean, franchise support manager in O2 retail and organiser of the Tour de O2, said: “Everyone at O2 is committed to helping young people make a positive difference in their communities.

“The stores have a big geographical footprint across the UK and the Tour de O2 is a wonderful opportunity for them to come together in support of O2 Think Big and young people.

“The money raised will allow young people to apply for funding to support projects that can dramatically change their own and other people’s lives for the better.”

The Tour de O2 - which started in Bangor in Northern Ireland on July 23 and finishes at The O2 in London on October 26th – involves staff members carrying a baton from store-to-store in creative ways.

The team at the O2 Shop in Carlton Lanes raised further cash by asking their customers to bounce two miles on space hoppers to Junction 32 on Saturday August 18.
