Residents are being urged to go to the polls tomorrow and vote for a new district councillor.

Polling stations will open at 7am to fill the vacant Castleford Central and Glasshoughton seat.

Candidates in the by-election include Richard Forster (Lab), Nathan Garbutt (UKIP), Annemarie Glover (Con) and Mark Goodair (Lib Dem).

One of them will replace Mark Burns-Williamson, who resigned from the post last month after 15 years following his appointment as West Yorkshire’s police and crime commissioner.

Details of the polling station locations can be found by visiting www.wakefield.gov.uk/elections and the result will be announced on the council’s website on February 22.
