Pontefract pupils show their art with Chinese peers

PONTEFRACT pupils have been showing off their artistic flair with some help from their Chinese peers.

Students from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and Holy Family and St Michael’s Catholic Primary School have been working with their partner schools in China on a new art project.

The project, which is called Better Community Better Life, focuses on voluntary work in communities and will be on show from September 7 at The Orangery’s Beam gallery in Wakefield.

Coun Olivia Rowley, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: “This project has not only enabled young people to tap into their artist talent but has given them the opportunity to improve their language and social skills.

“Our relationship with our Chinese peers is going from strength to strength and I’m pleased that more schools across the district are getting involved.”
