‘POP-UP’ fundraisers took almost £2,000 in donations during a charity event last
weekend.

A team from Cancer Research UK set up temporary shop at Castleford’s Junction 32 shopping outlet to raise much-needed cash for a good cause.

Residents braving the wet bank holiday weather visited the charity’s first pop-up shop and dropped off unwanted goods at their ‘donation station’, and also took part in a range of family activities.

Holly Buckley, area volunteer manager for Cancer Research UK, said: “Despite the poor weather, we received a very warm welcome from the shoppers, stores and staff at Junction 32 last weekend.

“We met lots of existing and new supporters who were very pleased to see us there.

“Many wanted to hear about other ways in which they could support Cancer Research UK and about the research we fund, including that at the nearby Leeds Cancer Research UK centre at St James’s Hospital in Leeds.”

Volunteers got stuck into the family fun by offering face-painting, children’s craft activities and a prize tombola, while also giving out information about the charity, the latest research, and how to get involved.

Mrs Buckley said: “We raised well over £2,000 from donations, activities and purchases from our pop-up shop.

“It was a very successful weekend for us and we hope to be back at Junction 32 in the near future.

“But in the meantime, we have lots more good quality clothes, accessories and bric-a-brac on offer at our shops in Carlton Street, Castleford and Beastfair, Pontefract, where you can also drop off any unwanted items for us to sell.”
