CREATIVE youngsters enjoyed an afternoon of Easter activities creating sock puppets at the Bridge Arts centre in Castleford.

Emma Lee-Wilby, an artist who regularly run workshops at the Sagar Street centre – taught 16 children how to make animal figures out of socks during the half-term break.

Mandy Williams, centre manager said: “It was absolutely fantastic and the children and their parents and carers really enjoyed making things together which they could take home to show their friends and families.

“We started off making Easter bunnies but, as you can imagine with small children, it went off in a different direction and we ended up with a polar bear!

“The workshop was free and all the socks and materials were paid for by the money we received from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust which allows us to put on a variety of free workshops for people across the Five Towns.”

Youngsters can go to the next holiday club – where they will make woolly head key rings using wire and wool – today (Thursday April 12) from 10.30am to noon.

An hour-long after school art club will start on April 19 at 3.45pm.
