THOUSANDS of pounds worth of ‘Olympic legacy’ funding has been awarded to Featherstone Rovers to revamp facilities at their ground.

The club’s charitable foundation has secured £50,000 worth of lottery cash from Sport England’s ‘Inspired Facilities’ fund, which aims to help continue the spirit 2012 Olympic Games.

Two new changing rooms and a gymnasium suitable for disabled people will be built at the Big Fellas Stadium which will also be open to the public.

Laurabeth Jaggar, head of community development, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our facilities for the community to match the quality of our community coaches and projects.

“It is the cornerstone of our strategy to have an outstanding club which continues the Olympics’ legacy.”

The new facilities at the Post Office Road site will also be used by Featherstone Rovers’ Wheelchair Rugby League Club and the women’s rugby team.
