Rugby tee party
Danny Kirmond with the locals on Whitwood Golf Course
RUGBY stars helped raise cash for charity by teeing off in a tournament at Whitwood Golf Club on Saturday.
Past and present players from Wakefield Wildcats and Great Britain Lions competed against local residents in the event at the Altofts Lane club, raising £400 for the RFL Benevolent Fund and Joining Jack, a charity supporting research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Elaine McBride, club manager said, “I am really proud of how much the club has raised would like to thank the Lions and Wildcat players as well as all the golf club staff and members for making it a huge triumph.”
More than 40 members also turned out to play 18 holes on Sunday to mark the club’s silver anniversary.
The municipal course – which was threatened with closure earlier this year due to government cuts – was taken over by environmental charity Groundwork Wakefield in June, which plans to improve facilities and increase membership.
