Lauren Croft , 23, from Knottingley is a finalist in the open mic regional singing contest

KNOTTINGLEY singer Lauren Croft is warming up her vocal chords for a shot at performing in the O2 arena in front of thousands of music fans.

The 20-year-old, of Forge Hill Lane, has made it to Open Mic UK’s regional final at Dewsbury Town Hall, and will have to wow the panel of judges to qualify for the grand national final in London.

Mum-of-one Lauren said: “It’s a big achievement to make it to the regional finals and it has always been the biggest aspiration of mine to perform and follow in the footsteps of my idols.

“I made it to the regional final two years ago but I had to pull out because I was ill, so making it through again is amazing.”

Lauren beat hundreds of aspiring singers at the open auditions in Leeds last month to bag a place in the 17 to 22 category.

A handful of contestants out of the 25 performers in each of three categories will be picked in the regional final, on Saturday October 13, to go through to the area finals, at which the winner of each category will secure a place at the O2.
